New invention in Xavi´s Lab

A couple of weeks before the Artworks event at Glassworks Barcelona we received confirmation from Canon that Xavi’s Lab at Glassworks had been made an official developer for Canon SLR cameras. This gave us the perfect opportunity (if not the perfect schedule) to develop something for this exiting event. After much head scratching and inspiration from the massive advancements in Canon’s sensor developments we settled on Xavi’s Lab’s very own unique twist on the “Photo Booth”

The “Photo Booth” is an installation that uses a series of different simple technologies. “Photo Booth” Invites the people to interact with these technologies in an intuitive and familiar way. Get inside, pose and smile…  A volumetric sensor, a Canon 600D SLR camera, TecPro LED lighting panels and face detection algorithm did the rest. After one, two or even six smiles and a flash, the picture is downloaded directly from the camera to the second part of the experience: an amazing gesture driven slideshow.

A screen situated in a perfect spot overlooking the beautiful Paseo de Gracia, displayed all the pictures taken in the photo booth. Using bespoke Kinect scripts the user could navigate through the selection of photos displayed on the screen using their hands (as in Minority Report) When the system wasn´t used (this happened very rarely), a 45000 particles system danced to the DJ music, providing integration between the party and the on screen display.

Thanks to “Grau Luminotecnia”, Roberto Feijoo  and the entire Glassworks team for helping us at Xavi’s Lab because without them, this would not have been possible.
